Description of the research topic:
Different pre-treatments are known to increase the biodegradability of organic matter content of food industry wastewater followed by anaerobic digestion (AD) process. Among them, the thermal pre-treatments are flexibly adaptable to wastewater with varying flow rate and composition. In order to analyse the efficiency of microwave (MW) and hydrothermal carbonization (HCT) pre-treatments and for modelling and optimization of processes is needed to investigate the effect of specific process parameters on organic matter solubility, biogas yield, components and quality of produced biogas, and the kinetic parameters of anaerobic digestion. Determination of dielectric parameters (such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor, and reflexion coefficient) for raw wastewater and measure their change during the pre-treatments enables to explore the relationship between the biodegradability indicators, physicochemical changes and the dielectric parameters. These results contribute to develop physicho-mathematical models, which are suitable for real time and in-line estimation of energetic efficiency of pre-treatment processes.
