Description of the research topic:
It is a general experience in the market that apples from the modern storage technologies are in many times tasteless. Numerous new storage technologies (ULO, smartfresh/MCP treatment etc.) are applied to reduce and elongate the ripening and after-ripening of apples during the cold storage. Timing of harvest is still based on those methods, and values which were developed for the normal atmosphere and early controlled atmosphere storage methods. The aim of this PhD work is to determine the objective fruit quality parameters (acidity, Brix%, firmness and reological parameters etc.) for commercial grown apple cultivars for ULO storage technique and MCP treatments.
