Description of the research topic:
Cortical spreading depolarisation (CSD) is a transient disruption of ionic balance that propagates along the cortex. Its study is warranted by its role in the propagation of secondary injury in stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage or traumatic brain injury. Signa lanalysis methods such as short-time Fourier transform or multifractal analysis may contribute to the exploration of the age dependence of CS Devolution, whilst Monte Carlo analysis of cellular models (eg, astrocyte networks) may complement experimental observations where certain factors can not becontrolled. Monte Carlo methods can also be employed in the correction of optical signals to decouple relevant optical information from haemoglobin absorption-related components.
