Description of the research topic:
Specific personality dimensions play crucial roles in the onset and persistence of addiction problems. This topic focuses on identifying these personality dimensions and their comparative analysis in substance users and persons with other types of addictive disorders. The phenomena subject to the investigation are: internet addiction, hypersexuality, work addiction, social networking addiction, gaming disorder, exercise addiction, gambling disorder, compulsive buying behaviour, and alcohol and substance use disorder. The personality factors to be studied include dimensions of self-regulation, impulsivity, sensation seeking, compulsivity and dimensions related to affect and mood regulation. Studies also investigate the associations of these factors with various psychiatric symptoms and the possible roles of these factors in the onset of addictive behaviours.
