Description of the research topic:
Recently, Chinese, Ayurvedic and other Far-Eastern healing methods are widespread almost all over the world. These utilise medicinal plant species to a large extent which are still hardly known, recognised or even studied in Europe. Stimulated by the need and requirements, today a separate committee of the European Pharmacopoeia is evaluating these species and developing the quality requirement guidelines for them. Similarly, may research groups are working on this topic. In Hungary and in the region, knowledge on well established use and supply of raw material of controlled quality from these species seems to be lacking.
In the frame of the PhD study we are going to describe the group of candidate species for cultivation under the circumstances of Central Europe, their botanical, ecological characteristics and active substances. We evaluate the drug spectrum on the market. The goal is to detect and define their intraspecific diversity, ecological reactions and production biological features in order to start a practical introduction activity.
The investigations take place in climatic chambers, in open field plots and in phytochemical laboratory. The work includes care of plants, evaluating their growth and development, sampling and sample preparation, taking part in laboratory investigations and preparing contributions. A good botanical and biochemical knowledge at MSc level and an advanced English knowledge is more than advantageous.
