Description of the research topic:
Weak monbasic acids react with weak monoacidic bases in water by forming highly dissociated 1:1 salts. This reaction is very different, however, in organic solvents. Hydrogen bonded complexes and ion pairs can be formed, with varying stoichiometries. We wish to study such reactions by different analytical methods. The work will be carried out in cooperation with our quantum chemistry group. The potential applications of the results are manyfold, and include the preparation of selective adsorbents, catalysts, superstoichiometric and reactive extraction systems, etc.
