Magneto-optical spectroscopy on qubit candidate solid state systems

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Budapest University of Technology and Economics
physics
Doctoral School of Physics

Thesis supervisor: Ferenc Simon
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Department of Physics
Abbreviation of location of studies: BME

Description of the research topic:

A potential candidate for quantum information storage is defect centers in solids (such as e.g. the NV center in diamond) or coupled electron-nuclear spins in molecules. Present exploratory research investigates various emerging candidates for such purposes including endohedral fullerenes and light induced excitations in nanocarbon. The applicant is required to participate in this research area with a combined approach including instrument development (e.g. a pulsed optically detecting magnetic resonance spectrometer), the combination of various magnetic resonance techniques (including ESR, NMR, ODMR), and modeling of the underlying energy structure and decoherence mechanism of the quantum information. The
work is supported by the Hungarian Quantum-Technology Initiative and by the Momentum Grant of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Required language skills: english
Further requirements:
Excellent marks, broad and deep knowledge in condensed matter physics.

Number of students who can be accepted: 1
