Description of the research topic:

Galactic nuclei are the densest regions of the Universe in stars and compact objects, which orbit around a central supermassive black hole. We study the statistical mechanics and astrophysical dynamics of the nuclear star cluster evolving under its self-gravity. The long-term gravitational multibody interaction effects lead to order/disorder transitions withing the distribution of orbital planes. We describe these effects with multidisciplinary tools and consider implications for electromagnetic and gravitational wave observations. The phd research will take place as a part of the GALNUC ERC Starting Grant Research Group at Eotvos University, which is comprised of several excellent international postdoctoral fellows, phd students, and fosters international collaborations with UCLA, Harvard, Princeton, and Heidelberg University.
