Description of the research topic:

"It is a hypothesis yet that the changing characteristics of atmospheric large scale circulation (i.e. jet streams, midlatitude cyclones and anticyclones) affect the increasing frequency and intensity of meteorological extremes. The PhD study aims to analyse and evaluate this hypothesis. First, the analysis is based on measured data for the past decades, which is followed by the evaluation of estimated changes on the basis of global climate models simulations for the future decades, by the end of the 21st century. The main goal is to explore which geographical regions within the northern hemisphere are the most sensitive regarding this hypothesis. The specification of the PhD study is finalised together with the applicant.
