Description of the research topic:
Autophagy ensures the degradation of intracellular components by transporting these to lysosomes for breakdown by acidic hydrolases, followed by the recycling of amino acids, lipids and sugars. Our research group uses Drosophila and human cells to study the molecular mechanisms of autophagy, and the physiological relevance of this pathway. During the projects that will be elaborated together with the applicants, additional autophagy factors and physiological processes will be analyzed.
