Description of the research topic:

Systems applied for plant regeneration are based either somatic embryogenesis (SE) or on callus-originated organogenesis. Research on asexual propagation of plants can be considered as practically relevant as it allows rapid propagation and maintenance of high- performance breeding material. In our laboratory, a regeneration system based on in vitro root culture has previously been established allowing the examination of regeneration processes in Arabidopsis thaliana plant. Our main goal is to study the involvement of polyamines and their metabolism in plant regeneration processes and improve the regeneration capacity through the manipulation of polyamine metabolism. The obtained results may help to improve regeneration capacity and set up more effective regeneration systems in case of economically relevant plant species as well.
