Description of the research topic:
The immense diversity of cortical excitatory and inhibitory neurons contributes to the functional versatility of complex neural networks. The main goal of the PhD work theme offered here is to map out the distribution of synaptic inputs on dendrites of GABAergic neuron subtypes (parvalbumin, calretinin, calbindin, NPY, ChAT, nitric oxide synthase, somatostatin) in the cerebral cortex using quantitative electron microscopic tools (TEM, FIB/SEM).
