Description of the research topic:
Protestant civil societies contributed a lot to the democratic development of historic Hungary. The role of ecclesiastical organisation such as YMCA, YWCA, Sunday School movement, home mission societies, self-educational circles and associations, diaconal works such as hospital care and orphanages and alike was decisive in the making up of local civil societies which often followed Western European (German, British, Dutch or to a little extent French models). Doctoral candidates are invited to do in depth research into the influences of Western Protestantism and enquire about how they were accommodated into the Hungarian civil society and ecclesiastical local communities.
The particular topic will be determined after consultation with the applicant
