Description of the research topic:

One of the key notions in the development and usage of 3D virtual environments is whether users (including those living with disabilities and the elderly population) can become immersed in the virtual environment. More and more applications are based on mutual collaboration and thus involve multiple users. The examination of immersion (Presence) is accomplished with objective methods and the analysis of subjective perception. As part of the dissertation, it needs to be estimated which are the salient aspects of HCI in the design and development of virtual reality based rehabilitation, monitoring and serious game software developed for non-disabled users healthy and those with special needs. In the case of applications with more users, time delay may also cause problems. The questions of scene display, the impact of surfaces with different sizes and the presence of collaborative applications should also be examined. For this, algorithms should be developed that can be used in test programs. The test software should be created to work with special I/O devices. The test software should be monitored for optimal usability with various devices, for suitably for specific age groups, for the level of injury of the user. One of the aims of the resulting dissertation will be to make recommendations as to what kind of HCI aspects should be taken into account in the optimal design of the software’s user interface, scene display and navigation.
