Angol nyelvből felsőfokú A-típusú államilag elismert nyelvvizsgával rendelkezik. 2000-ben habilitált doktori, 2001-ben pedig egyetemi magántanári címet kapott a Nyugat-Magyarországi Egyetem (Sopron) Erdőmérnöki Karán. 2007-ben a Debreceni Egyetem Agrártudományi Centrumának címzetes egyetemi tanára lett. 1987-től megszakítás nélkül választott tagja az MTA Erdészeti Bizottságának.
