A kutatási téma leírása:

Chronic pain is an unpleasant sensory and/or emotional experience associated with or similar to actual or potential tissue damage. Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than three to six months or exceeds the time required for normal tissue healing after the acute painful event. The prevalence of chronic pain is estimated at 20-50% of the studied populations, while the incidence of high-grade, long-lasting pain associated with reduced work capacity can reach up to 10%, which represents a great burden for both the patient and the economy. Chronic pain is a complex bio-psycho-social phenomenon, so examination, evaluation and treatment require a multi-modal, inter-disciplinary approach.
The research topic primarily includes inter-disciplinary (neurosurgery, neurology, psychiatry, psychology) studies of neuro-interventional examination and treatment (spinal cord stimulator) of chronic pain, focusing on mental disorders and the exploration of various psychiatric and psychological characteristics. In addition to clinical (pre- and post-intervention) examinations, validated psychological tests and questionnaires (performance tests, personality tests, clinical scales) are taken and analyzed. Based on these, the development and the validation of a clinical guideline is planned.
