Despite of the global decrease in suicide rates in recent decades, suicidal behavior remains a major public health issue worldwide. In Hungary, nearly 1,700 people die by suicide every year. In addition to social and public health prevention opportunities, increasing the diagnostic and therapeutic efficiency of psychiatric care is of the greatest importance in terms of preventing suicidal behavior. However, the recognition of acute suicide risk is still often a difficulty in psychiatric practice. Nowadays, for this reason - in addition to the classic risk assessment - questionnaires and scales assessing the symptoms of acute suicidal crisis are increasingly coming to the fore.
The working group in our clinic is carrying out the Hungarian adaptation of the questionnaire developed based on the concept of Suicidal Crisis Syndrome (SCS) by Galynker et al. Based on the above, the aim of our current research is to accurately assess the current state of mind of the patients presenting at the clinic, with special regard to the factors that pose a direct risk of suicide. In this prospective study, in addition to clinical data and psychiatric examinations, patients fill out detailed psychological tests and questionnaires. Based on the analysis and evaluation of these data, we are developing models that can be used to recognize and prevent suicidal behavior more effectively.
