A kutatási téma leírása:
Acidolysis is an emerging technique for the chemical recycling of polyurethane foams (PUFs) resulting in the selective cleavage of urethane bonds, while leaving ether and urea groups largely intact. The reaction products are a recycled polyol with hydroxyl end-groups and a solid hard segment residue with mainly carboxyl end-groups. To improve the environmental performance of the process, several biobased dicarboxylic acids of different chain lengths will be tested as reagents. Our main objective is to find solutions to the valorisation of the solid hard segment residues, which is at present not adequately addressed. On the one hand, this material will be used as reinforcement in rigid foams for insulation. In addition, polyurethane adhesives with high modified hard segment content will be developed to promote the environmental sustainability of rubber granulate block products by reducing waste and minimizing the use of virgin materials. In parallel, hard segment residues will be incorporated into polyurea coatings to develop nano-reinforced coating materials for demanding applications, e.g., for chemical processing facilities and warehouse floors.
