The Persian walnut (Juglans regia L.) is the most grown nut tree crop in Central Europe, its grown area and harvested yield are increasing year on year in that region. Consumption of the kernel is popular, and it is supported by some studies. All parts of walnut like leaves, green husk (mesocarp), pellicle, septum, and kernel are rich in phythochemicals. These phythochemicals play an important role in the prevention of diseases attacking not just the green husk, but the shell and the kernel as well. Aim of this PhD topic is to detect the chemical compounds in quantity and quality of kernel of different walnut varieties, genotypes, and accessions derived from different conditions (under irrigated, non-irrigated conditions) during the vegetation period and examines their role in the prevention of the nut fruits. Compounds of the kernel will be important in the future because of various effects of climate change.
