Investigation of the patterns and processes of urbanisation using examples of metropolitan areas from Asia. The study of urbanisation of capital cities reveals physical as well as administrative forces that constitute key elements of the demographic, economic, transport geographical evolution of urban structures. The research should focus both on the negative and positive consequences of this process, including overpopulation, pollution and landuse changes, relying on the application of statistical, cartographical and remote sensing data. Integrated urban development strategies are also used for the purpose of explaining the dynamics and future of urbanisation from a global perspective.
