As a linguistic consequence of the globalization of the English language new regional dialects and varieties have been emerging, which seem to undermine the concept of standard language use. Analogical changes contribute to reinstating linguistic features which were labelled substandard by prescriptivists, so old patterns of language variation resurface and - combined with linguistic interference from the substratum languages - contribute to the emergence of 'New Englishes'. Either feature-based or region-based investigations can be carried out in the framework of this project.
