Description of the research topic:

The high photosynthetic activity and rapid reproduction of algae species result in exceptionally high yields compared to any conventional agricultural crop, and can be used very efficiently also in wastewater treatment systems. The European Commission's initiative of 15 November 2022 provides a coherent approach by supporting the EU's algae cultivation and market. The research focuses on different algae cultivation technologies, substrates and utilisation options, in particular wastewater and energy use of the final products. This will also justify the involvement of a research facility capable of carrying out laboratory tests. The results of this research could be of interest in particular to local authorities and livestock farmers.
