Description of the research topic:

The pulse arrival time can be determined from the simultaneously acquired ECG and photoplethysmogram (PPG), which can be used for non-invasive and cuffless blood pressure calculation. Due to the spreading of wearable smart devices, PAT research has come to the front. We subdivide the breathing-ECG-PPG action-chain in a human study: proximally the electromechanical coupling, distally the time delay between the conductance and resistance vessels will be measured in a beat-to-beat manner. We investigate the effects of the breathing pattern, the mild physical and the cold immersion test. Our results are expected to enable the development of more accurate and reproducible blood pressure measurement algorithms for the smart wearables.
