Description of the research topic:

Triangular meshes and parametric boundary representations have a well established toolset for

constructing, modifying, and displaying shapes. Implicit volume representations lack such a

standardized tooling, diminishing the advantages of their inherent flexibility. Moreover, realistic

rendering requires a mapping between authored texture maps containing optical properties and the

boundaries of the volumes defined via implicit mappings.

The goal of this research is to provide an overview of these topics from an implicit modeling

perspective and focus on improving on the current state-of-the-art on specific subset of tasks and

operations with regards to signed distance functions. Moreover, the robust and efficient rendering

of scenes of high complexity is of particular interest, and their generalization to a wider class of

implicit functions, such as Lipschitz continuous mappings.
