Description of the research topic:

The role of the small and medium-sized enterprise sector in economic processes is indisputable, but at the same time the role of SMEs in social processes is becoming increasingly important. The professional goal of the research is to explore what types of economic and social processes small and medium-sized enterprises are already involved in, and which processes they could successfully join, thereby which economic and social difficulties and problems they could alleviate (such as reducing emigration, employing and reintegrating convicts into society, etc.). Research would focus primarily on the role of the SME sector in local socio-economic processes. The study would include the economic actors, civil society organisations and communities with which small and medium-sized enterprises have established relationships, the strength and durability of these relationships, the areas in which they cooperate and the benefits of these relationships for different actors.
A further objective of the research is to examine how sensitive and receptive the managers of small enterprises are to economic and social problems, and under what conditions they would be willing to actively participate not only in economic but also in social processes. In addition, it would be worthwhile to extend the research to the question of how small business leaders feel about whether involvement in social processes affects their management, for example, whether it affects their competitiveness and profitability, and if so, whether it has a positive or rather negative impact.
