Description of the research topic:
Upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) are capable of emitting higher-energy photons in the visible and UV ranges under the influence of infrared excitation radiation. The research and development work is aimed at producing UCNPs with suitable properties using wet colloid chemical processes and integrating them into systems whose photoactivity and photoresponse can be extended to the near IR excitation range. Such systems can be e.g. semiconductor-based, self-cleaning nanocoatings, photovoltaic devices and materials used in photodynamic cancer therapy.
