Description of the research topic:
The prevalence of obesity has increased significantly over the past three decades. Obesity leads to increased mortality primarily through the development of co-morbidities. From this point of view, cardiovascular diseases are of outstanding importance. In the pathogenesis of obesity the low-grade inflammation has great importance. It promotes the process of atherosclerosis and thus plays a role in the development of cardiovascular diseases. This inflammatory process develops as a result of adipocytokines produced by adipose tissue (adiponectin, leptin, chemerin, TNF-α, IL-6, PAI-1, etc.) and increased oxidative stress. In the course of our research, we want to study the effects of dietary interventions and GLP-1 RA treatment, (the most important medicine in weight reduction) on body composition, lipid parameters, and serum levels of adipocytokines in obese non-diabetic patients cared by the Obesitology Outpatient Unit of our Clinic. Our results help to understand the beneficial effects of weight reduction on cardiovascular risk.
