Description of the research topic:

The concept of avoidable mortality is based on the knowledge that in the under-75 age group, some deaths would be avoided if efficient and on-time public health or health care were available. Within avoidable mortality, since the early 1990s, there had been a continuous development of groups of avoidable mortality related to medical interventions and health services (treatable or amenable to health care/medical care) on the one hand, and avoidable mortality due to primary prevention (preventable) on the other. Previous international and national studies have mainly focused on the analysis of the mortality of amenable to health care, and this research will therefore focus on the analysis of preventable mortality, which is another group of avoidable mortality. The research will be carried out using the tools of spatial epidemiology methods and the geographical information programs (ArcGIS, Rapid Inquiry Facility (RIF)) and mathematical modelling methods. The results of study can identify population groups at risk of preventable avoidable mortality and (within this group) high risk of mortality due to lung cancer and alcoholic liver diseases in our country. The study can provide relevant data for local and governmental decision-makers, as well as for experts in the field of health promotion, especially in primary prevention, to identify target groups for health promotion strategies and programmes.
The aim of the research is to determine the trend of preventable mortality in Hungary according to the OECD/Eurostat common list revised and adopted in January 2022, to highlight spatial inequalities within the country, and to analyze the relationship between socio-economic status and preventable mortality using a multidimensional area-based Deprivation Index. Further aim of the study is to determine trend, spatial inequalities, and relationship of the mortality risk due to lung cancer and alcoholic liver diseases in context of spatial epidemiological study.
