Abbreviation of location of studies: EMTE

Description of the research topic:

Despite the many promising forms of exercise available in the growing fitness industry, students are characterised by high levels of physical inactivity. A comparison of the physiological and cellular effects of different forms of exercise can provide guidance for those who wish to exercise and can also provide an incentive for physically inactive students and other age groups. Research into the central regulatory protein mTOR (mammalian/mechanistic target of rapamycin) has become of major importance in recent years, not only in cell biology but also in sports biology, but its relationship with other signalling pathways during physical activity is still understudied.
The aim of our study is to compare different forms of exercise training and to investigate the differences between them in terms of the activity of mTOR, Wnt and other pathways. The exercise programmes include core, aerobic and anaerobic types of strenght and endurance training, our studied group is university students aged 20-24 years. Measurements will be carried out by RNA/ELISA/Western blotting based expression level detereminations of target proteins, body composition will be monitored by impedance-based measurements, supplemented by anthropomorphic and motor measurements and by functional movement pattern screening.

Number of students who can be accepted: 1
