Description of the research topic:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most critical public health issues of the 21st century; one of the main drivers of AMR is the injudicious use of available antimicrobial drugs. Several guidelines and recommendations emphasize the role of healthcare professionals in promoting the appropriate use of antibiotics. Members of the healthcare staff (including nurses and allied healthcare professionals) have a key role in integrated, patient-centered healthcare, and they may also acquire additional competencies within the framework of task-shifting. Limited data is available on the AMR-related knowledge, attitudes and practices among these healthcare professionals, despite the fact that they make up 50-70% of human resources in healthcare. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices related to AMR among healthcare workers in Hungary, using quantitative epidemiological methods.
