Description of the research topic:

Studies on tourism have examined the circular economy from different perspectives and have presented different examples that are interlinked and contribute significantly to sustainable development. While the literature emphasises the enormous potential of the circular economy in the tourism sector, there is a noticeable lack of understanding of the evolving trends in circular economy research.
From a tourism perspective, almost all aspects of tourism concepts seem to be receptive to the circular economy, whether the studies are concerned with tourism development or management. In conclusion, this research enriches our scientific knowledge of how circular economy principles relate to tourism. It will guide PhD students towards key areas of interest, shaping future exploration of this dynamic scientific relationship.

Formulating possible research directions:
Application of alternative solutions.
Exploring smart solutions.
Using creative tools.
Using innovative interventions.
Suggestions to decision makers.
Research methods:
There are a number of research methods that can be applied to the topic of sustainability, tourism and rural development to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the subject. Some of these include:
- Quantitative research methods:
Surveys and questionnaires: these can be used to determine tourists' preferences, behaviour and attitudes towards sustainability issues.
Data analysis: Analysis of available statistics and data can be used to identify trends and impacts of the relationship between tourism and rural development.
- Qualitative research methods:
In-depth interviews and group discussions: these allow detailed information and feelings to be gathered on the views and experiences of local people, businesses and other stakeholders.
Observation and participant observation: on-site observations can reveal the impacts of tourism on rural communities and the environment.
Computer modelling and simulation:
- Economic modelling: This can be used to determine the economic impacts of tourism in rural areas.
- Environmental modelling: Models can be used to estimate the environmental impacts of tourism and their long-term consequences.
Comparative analysis:
- International comparative research: analyses of research in other countries can be used to draw more general conclusions about the relationship between sustainable tourism and rural development.
Bibliometric analyses: bibliometric tools are used to analyse the evolution of the literature and the relationship between different types of innovation systems.
