Description of the research topic:
The applicant can chose one of the following authors as subject of her/his investigation: Tertullianus, Lactantius, Pelagius, Saint Jerome, Saint Augustine. She/he is suggested to focus principally on one of the following questions: anti-gnostic polemic; attitude to pagan philosophic schools; free will versus determinism; the question of theodicea; creation ex nihilo; the nature of the soul, the possibilities and limits of knowledge; faith and reason; theory of the passions; theology of history; relationship between church and state; the question of happiness; problems of practical ethics.
