Description of the research topic:
The dearth of genuine critical editions of numerous authors and their works poses a hindrance to the study of these subjects. This problem applies even to the seemingly best-known authors (e. g. Hāfiz, Sa'di), yet the list may be extended ad infinitum. The uncritical reception of these oeuvres has led to spurious canonisations and it resulted in fictitious "critical" editions and unsubstantiated oeuvres – e. g. that of Omar Khayyām. These have been so deeply entrenched in public consciousness in both Iran and the West that transcending them has become a challenge. The current research proposal invites a revision of the Persian handwritten heritage in order to meet this challenge.
