Description of the research topic:

The finiteness of a clause determines a number of its properties: whether it can have a visible subject, if so, in what Case form it is expected to surface; whether it can have a left periphery, if so, does it differ from the left periphery of finite clauses, etc. Certain non-finite clauses undergo clause union with the clause selecting them leading to a scrambled word order where constituents of the non-finite clause can appear in the finite clause. The aim of the research project is identifying and explaing the different patterns that are available cross-linguistically.
