Description of the research topic:
The increase of the cross-section of discharged pumped KrF excimer amplifiers is the ultimate method to have access to J class UV short pulses. Former studies concerning preionization showed that X-ray preionization-based design is superior over UV spark-preionized ones. The fast recombination of the ions in the KrF mixture (because of halogen attachment) requires short and intense X-ray preionization pulse. Cold-cathode X-ray gun design allows to insert preionization inside the discharge chamber. This “internal” X-ray preionization allows to influence the geometry of the discharge not only by the shape of the electrodes, but by proper positioning of the X-ray guns. The main goal of this research is to identify the consequences of “internal” X-ray preionization and to realize of such a discharge design.
