Description of the research topic:
Respiratory diseases as diseases of civilization are posing an increasing burden on our population. Since they are among the leading causes of death, the respiratory system is a key focus of translational research. As the high morbidity and mortality associated with lung diseases is an increasing challenge for health-care providers, further characterization of respiratory diseases is indispensable.
The aim of the present research is to carry out translational investigations both in animal models and human investigations. These studies have the potential to provide a more thorough understanding of the pathophysiology of lung diseases and to provide therapeutical targets for such diseases.
