Description of the research topic:

The research topic aims to investigate the intracellular gas metabolism in vitro in hypoxia-related disorders. Endogenous gaseous signalling molecules, such as methane and formaldehyde, can significantly influence cellular function, but our knowledge about their pathological effects is limited. The research adopts a multidisciplinary approach to better understand the formation and mechanisms of action of these gases. The goal is to develop a gas diagnostic instrument capable of identifying and tracking changes in biological gases in living cells over time. Other objectives include monitoring mitochondrial and membrane function, tracking changes in gas concentrations, and comparing them with neutrophil extracellular trap formation under hypoxic conditions.
Research objectives:
- Design, development, and testing of a gas diagnostic instrument capable of identifying and monitoring changes in biological gases derived from living cells under normoxic and hypoxic conditions.
- Monitoring of intracellular gas emission-related mitochondrial and membrane function under hypoxia at various time intervals.
- Tracking changes in the concentration of emitted gases under hypoxic conditions by manipulating the system with different substances.
- Investigation of the relationship between gas emission changes and neutrophil extracellular trap formation under hypoxic conditions.
Our institute provides suitable conditions for Ph.D. students, and their work is supported by researchers with appropriate experience and research performance, as well as the institute's full range of equipment.
