Description of the research topic:
Small cell lung cancer accounts for 15% of lung tumors and is often metastatic at diagnosis. Although tumors often respond well to chemotherapeutic treatments, resistance usually develops rapidly, resulting in a short median survival of patients. During treatment, and as the tumor develops, the typical neuroendocrine phenotype and genome stability in the cells is altered, which contributes to drug resistance. Our aim is to monitor and characterize these changes, which may help improve treatment options by identifying new biomarkers.
