Description of the research topic:

The significance of healthy eating in both youth and old age is undeniable, as it constitutes a pivotal factor in delaying the pathological processes of aging and preventing diseases. The natural decline in the efficiency of the immune system and the emergence of chronic diseases are characteristic features of old age, yet with health-conscious nutrition, it is feasible to slow down and prevent these processes. It is imperative to emphasize that proper nutrition and nutrient intake can aid in preserving physical and mental health, as well as in delaying or reducing the onset of chronic diseases. Healthy eating should be particularly emphasized at all life stages, as certain nutrients such as protein, iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and omega-3 fatty acids are of paramount importance. Research is increasingly providing evidence that appropriate vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients can assist in protecting against the progression of age-related diseases. Our objective is to review the role of diet and nutritional supplements in disease prevention. In our research, we underscore the significance of dietary factors and the role of health-promoting nutrition in decelerating the pathological processes of aging and maintaining health.
In detail:
The Doctoral Program examining the close relationship between healthy aging and nutrition is based on an epidemiological approach to deeply understand the correlations between aging processes and the prevention of various diseases. The main goal of the program will be to uncover the importance of proper nutrition and lifestyle in reducing the risk of healthy aging and chronic diseases. The PhD program will extensively address the following key areas:
• Epidemiological studies: Through epidemiological investigations conducted during the program, we will examine the relationship between aging processes and nutrition, with particular emphasis on the development of chronic diseases.
• Nutritional factors and disease risk: In our research, we will thoroughly analyze the relationship between nutrition and various diseases, such as cardiovascular, respiratory, cancerous diseases, as well as neurodegenerative conditions.
• Interventional studies: Using planned interventional studies during the program, our aim will be to examine the effectiveness of healthy nutrition and lifestyle programs in slowing down aging processes and preventing diseases.
• Nutritional recommendations and policies: Leveraging the research findings, our aim will be to propose recommendations and policies to support healthy aging and disease prevention in the field of nutrition and lifestyle.
Overall, the program will provide detailed analyses and research findings contributing to the expansion of scientific knowledge on healthy aging and disease prevention. Additionally, it will offer specific recommendations for the development of public health strategies and the enhancement of dietary guidelines.
