Description of the research topic:
This topic covers the traditional and novel digital soil mapping approaches and the related methodological developments and applications. Static categorical and numerical soil properties together with the dynamic soil properties, like soil moisture, can be mapped for decision support, like soil moisture management, precision farming and other soil uses, and remote sensing and digital terrain based soil monitoring system development. The most commonly used variables in digital soil mapping – besides of the field soil data – are the optical, thermal and radar remotely sensed satellite data sources and the digital terrain models and terrain derivatives. Digital soil mapping uses these data sources as inputs for the statistical, geostatistical, image processing and classification tools to estimate and map soil properties in several scales of interest.
