Description of the research topic:
The recent COVID19 pandemy demonstrated the need for more detailed studies of both the viral pathogenesis and the anti-viral vaccination strategies. The pandemy exposed the current diversity of vaccination strategies, based on inactivated virus, recombinant protein, synthetic peptides, recombinant adenoviruses and, recently, mRNA technology. Our research is based in two complementary approaches. Our main topic is complex analysis of the T cell response evoked by different antigen/adjuvant combinations and vaccination protocols; as well as the analysis of long-term memory. In a releted project, we also work on identifying “non-canonical” virus receptor cell surface heparane sulfate proteins.
