Description of the research topic:
The human neocortex, compared to rodents, shows remarkable differences in a number of features.
Although both have laminar structures and share similar cellular types, certain biophysical properties and synaptic plasticity rules are different.
We focus on the parvalbum in-expressing fast-spiking basket cells of the supragranular layer, which innervate the perisomatic region of principal cells. We put special emphasis on comparing the rodent and human cellular features.
