Description of the research topic:
It is still a great challenge both for scientists and design engineers to link laboratory testing results of traditional accelerated corrosion studies with the ’real-life’ behaviour of metals and/or metal coated parts and structures to predict their environment induced (mostly chemical) degradation (aging, corrosion evolution). The research work should target the most critical aspects of this matter by focused reviewing the topic (experimental techniques and modelling), then performing a serious research programme on a specific system during the course of the PhD studies.
