Description of the research topic:
The interdisciplinary research of Bronze Age fortified settlements plays a significant role in understanding the environmental history of a landscape. These archaeological sites are not only important parts of the cultural heritage of the Carpathian Basin, but are significant elements of the natural heritage. The importance of these structures lies within the potential of studying their buried soils and anthropogenic sediments. Data gained by the means of soil scientific (geoarchaeological) methods not only form the basis of environmental historical conclusions, but reveals mosaics of the interaction between ancient human populations and their environment.
