Description of the research topic:
Optimality Theory (Prince and Smolensky, 1993; Smolensky and Legendre, 2006) is not only a successful linguistic formalism, but also a theory of the human mind. The goal of the research is to demonstrate that non-linguistic cognitive functions can also be described with the same formalism. Special emphasis will be put on phenomena belonging to the academic study of religion, and in particular, to Hebrew studies (Biblical studies of Judaic studies).
