Description of the research topic:
In Hungary, sheep embryos are produced in vivo via MOET programs. Applied embriology requires a plenty of cheaply produced embryos, that can be maintained only with in vitro embryo production. First part of this PhD program would be to establish and maintain a successful sheep IVEP system. In the second part of the research, we are going to assess the viability of in vivo flushed and in vitro derived embryos after flushing/production, and after freezing-thawing. Morphological assessments of the embryo is not always suitable for predicting the viability of the embryos. Investigating viability- which is also very important in the case of pre-implantation and after freezing-thawing- is completed with immunocytochemistry and fluocytometry. The aim of the research is to establish a sheep IVEP protocol, and a protocol for predicting sheep embryo viablity, which is able to improve the success of sheep assisted reproduction techniques.
