Our research focuses on border-associated macrophages (BAMs) and mast cells (MC) reside in the meninges and the perivascular space. BAMs and MCs communicate with neurons, astrocytes, microglia and other brain cells and appear to contribute to neuroinflammation by interacting with microglial and endothelial cells. Microglia-driven cerebral spreading inflammation is a key contributor to secondary brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). We aimed to investigate the interaction between microglia and BAMs in differents pathological conditions, such as SAH or traumatic brain injury. We are currently conducting morphological studies of brain-resident immune cells in a single-injection model of SAH. In addition, we aim to introduce a traumatic brain injury model to investigate the immunological responses associated with transcranial injuries
