Description of the research topic:
The goal of the CMS experiment at CERN is to probe the standard model -- the best, albeit incomplete theory available today to describe particle interactions -- and to discover phenomena beyond its validity in high energy proton-proton collisions by direct observations of new interactions and by precision measurements of known processes such as the production of the Higgs boson. Present research proposal aims to carry out such a measurement and to contribute to the development and construction of the present and future particle tracking systems that play a central role in such measurements.
Required language skills: English Further requirements: knowledge of particle physics, experience in C++/ROOT programming and the usage of linux, experience with (or enthusiasm to learn) FPGA programming (in VHDL) is favorable
