Description of the research topic:
This research area includes theoretical, institutional and/or empirical problems, like the followings: To which extent are representation and democracy compatible? What institutions and procedures are appropriate for this “marriage”? To which extent empirical political trends in contemporary democracies (dealignment, decline of classical cleavage lines, changing role and character of the media, personalization of electoral campaigns, etc.) change the meaning of representation and/or democracy? What impacts do they have on responsiveness of public policy and/or the accountability of political leaders? Does accountability work in audience democracy / plebiscitary democracy / post-democracy?
