Description of the research topic:
Chemical reactions inside single-walled carbon nanotubes are presently of high scientific and technological interest. Our experimental colleagues determined electronic transition energies, ground state as well as excited state vibrational frequencies, and electron-vibron coupling constants for various ribbon- and chain-like molecules prepared inside carbon nanotubes. Our aim is to calculate these quantities on a DFT level. This is not a trivial task, there are many basic theoretical problems to be clarified, including the relation between molecular physics and solid state physics approximations.
